Whangārei Museum is proud to host the Ambulance: Alongside Whangārei for 100 Years St John exhibition, commemorating the frontline officers and volunteers from past to present in their service to the people of Whangārei.
Venture through a century's worth of evolving medical practice, a story told through the St John artefacts on display. From vintage stretchers to resuscitation dummies, the objects showcase how medical technology and theory was used in a constantly changing landscape.
This exhibition follows the earliest days of St John in Whangārei and Northland, from its humble beginnings as a fledgling brigade at the turn of the century, to the steady strength they provided through the turmoil of WW and WWII, where now, St John has endured as a force of compassion and frontline assistance to the present and beyond.
Whangārei Museum invites you to look to the past in honouring the courageous officers, community workers and volunteers who have responded to countless emergencies and offered invaluable support to the community over the years. All of which was provided with the persisting compassion and generosity that embodies the St John mission.
St Johns looks to the future with their extensive offering of first aid courses and cadet programs designed for children and youth, empowering the next generation by dispensing essential medical knowledge and fostering emergency preparedness.
